New Delhi: The existence of extraterrestrial life has been a topic of heated debate for years. While many UFO/alien hunters are confident about alien existence, there are also those who deny it.
2017 has been quite an eventful year when it comes to incidents of UFO spotting. While there have been no solid explanations for many of them, at least one mystery has been solved.
Reports of a UFO spotted in Google Maps and Google Earth photographs had been doing the rounds. A mysterious shape in the middle of a field had sparked questions.
A large triangle with bright lights evenly placed around it had been seen in Australia at coordinates 30°30'38.44"S 115°22'56.03"E.

The triangle was first discovered in 2007 and had piqued the interest of many UFO enthusiasts.
Many were quick to claim it was a “triangle UFO” which had been captured hovering above Earth. However, on closer inspection, it was revealed that it doesn't actually anything to do with aliens at all.
The 'UFO' is actually the Alvernia Studios, used for films, as well as features for video games and music projects.
Meanwhile, a 2011 archive footage of NASA's shuttle launch has resurfaced after a strange white object was spotted.
UFO hunters across the internet have gone into a frenzy by the find, claiming it is evidence of an alien craft.
The shimmery white spectacle can be seen in the clouds alongside the fuel tank discarded from the space shuttle Endeavour after it blasts off for its final mission in May 2011.

The old footage, originally posted on NASA's official YouTube channel, has been dug up and re-examined by UFO enthusiasts. It was re-uploaded to the channel UFO Today, which is dedicated to "the UFO phenomena".
The channel has interpreted the object as the "White Knight Satellite" – a rumoured extra-terrestrial craft that has been secretly orbiting the Earth for thousands of years.
It can be seen in the clip when the fuel tank is jettisoned from the NASA craft minutes after take-off.

While NASA has been quite outspoken about their doubts on alien existence, Tony del Genio, co-lead of NASA's NExSS project at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York has said that the discovery of alien life may only be a couple of decades away, Mirror.co.uk reported.
"I think that in 20 years we will have found one candidate that might be it," he said.
Del Genio recognises that alien life may well exist in forms and places so bizarre that it might be substantially different from Earth.

FCC's Pai, addressing net neutrality rules, calls Twitter biased

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, accused social media company Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) of being politically biased on Tuesday as he defended his plan to roll back rules intended to ensure a free and open internet.
Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, testifies before a Senate Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., June 20, 2017. REUTERS/Aaron P. Bernstein
Pai, a Republican named by President Donald Trump to head up the FCC, unveiled plans last week to scrap the 2015 landmark net neutrality rules, moving to give broadband service providers sweeping power over what content consumers can access.
“When it comes to an open internet, Twitter is part of the problem,” Pai said. “The company has a viewpoint and uses that viewpoint to discriminate.”
He pointed to Twitter’s refusal to let Representative Marsha Blackburn, a Republican, advertise a campaign video with an anti-abortion message.
“To say the least, the company appears to have a double standard when it comes to suspending or de-verifying conservative users’ accounts as opposed to those of liberal users,” Pai said.
A spokesperson for Twitter said that at no time was Blackburn’s video censored and that her followers would have been able to still see it.
“Because advertisements are served to users who do not necessarily follow an account, we therefore have higher standards for their content,” the Twitter spokesperson said.
Twitter in October declined a campaign video advertisement by Blackburn, who announced she is running for the U.S. Senate, saying that a remark by Blackburn about opposing abortion was inflammatory. Twitter later reversed its decision.
Pai’s criticism came a day after Twitter and a number of other internet-based companies - including AirBnb, Reddit, Shutterstock, Inc, Tumblr and Etsy (ETSY.O) - sent a letter urging the FCC to maintain the net neutrality rules.
Trump is a prolific user of Twitter, often posting his unvarnished thoughts on the news of the day. He used Twitter throughout his presidential campaign to circumvent traditional media and talk directly to voters.
Pai has also been a frequent user of the website - acknowledging during the speech, “I love Twitter” - to push his case in favor of the rule changes. On Tuesday afternoon, he even posted a link to his remarks critical of Twitter on his own Twitter account.
Following Pai’s remarks on Tuesday, at an event organized by the libertarian-leaning R Street Institute, two other FCC commissioners said they would support his proposal when they vote on Dec. 14.
The proposed rollback of net neutrality has been seen as a victory for big internet service providers such as AT&T Inc (T.N), Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O) and Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N), which favored a repeal. On the other side, websites such as Facebook (FB.O) and Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google have favored the rules.
The rules prohibit broadband providers from giving or selling access to speedy internet, essentially a “fast lane,” to certain internet services over others.
“So when you get past the wild accusations, fear mongering and hysteria, here’s the boring bottom line,” Pai said. “The plan to restore internet freedom would return us to the light touch, market-based approach under which the internet thrived.”

A basic guide on how to troubleshoot your smartphone

HOW AND WHEN TO RESET

The iPhone is a product of tight integration between hardware and software. But even if the occurances are rare, there might be times when apps start crashing, and the device seems slower than usual.

Restarting the phone is likely to solve some issues. To do this, press the Power button for a few seconds and then use the slide-to-power off option on the screen.

If the problem persists, you can try resetting the device back to its factory settings. To do this, go to Settings > General > Reset.

In Reset, you are provided with several options...

If the issue you are facing is minor in nature, like a laggy phone, for instance, reset your handset using Reset All Settings. Don't worry. This option will not delete your data or the apps you have installed.

If your problem is a little more serious, where your phone restarts by itself or freezes during use, try Erase All Content and Settings . If your phone has frozen, you can try a hard reboot:
Press the Power button andHome button simultaneously. Keep both pressed for around 10 to 15 seconds. Release the buttons when you see the Apple logo on the screen. Your phone will reboot.

If your iPhone isn't booting up, hard reset it through iTunes (data will be lost).

Open iTunes on your PC or Mac and make sure it is updated. Then, connect the phone to your computer. If the phone is switched on, iTunes will recognize it. If it doesn't , keep the power and home button pressed. iTunes will then detect the device in recovery mode. Follow the onscreen instructions on your PC to complete the reset and restore process.

HOW TO BACK UP CONTACTS, MESSAGES AND APPS

BACK UP THROUGH iCLOUD:

You can use Apple's iCloud service to back up your phone's data (contacts, app settings, messages and images) to its servers. To enable this feature, click on Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup > On. Alternatively, to back up your data manually, click on Storage and Backup > Backup Now.

BACK UP THROUGH iTUNES:

To back up your iPhone through iTunes, connect it to a PC on which iTunes has been installed. Once your device is identified, click on the iPhone shown in iTunes and select Backup.

HOW TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE

Whether you are setting up a new iPhone or restoring it after a factory reset, you are provided with three options: Set up as a new iPhone. Restore from iCloud (will require a Wi-Fi connection). Restore from iTunes Backup (will require a cable connection to your computer).

WINDOWS PHONE

HOW AND WHEN TO RESET

While Windows Phone devices may not be made by the same company that also developed the operating system for them, Microsoft, which makes the OS, decides the minimum hardware requirements for each Windows Phone. Result: Most Windows Phone devices run fast and are stable. But in case you face issues with your handset, here are a few steps you can follow...

You can switch off a Windows Phone device by pressing the Power button for a few seconds and then dragging the prompt that appears on the device to the bottom of the screen. To restart the device, press the Power button again.

You can reset the device by going to Settings > about > reset your phone. This will reset the device to its factory settings. You will, however, lose the data stored on your handset.

If the device is not responding, you can do a hard reboot by simultaneously pressing the Volume Down and Power button for around 10 seconds.

If your Windows Phone handset still does not respond, try a hard reset.

To reset a Nokia Lumia (Windows Phone 8)

Make sure the charger is disconnected. Switch the power Off. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger. You will now see an exclamation mark (!) on the screen. Then press the keys in the following order: Volume up, Volume down, Power, Volume down. The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note, this may take several minutes.

To reset Lumia with (Windows Phone 7)

Make sure the charger is disconnected, then, switch the power Off. Press and hold the Volume down and Camera key. Now, press and hold the Power key. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key, but continue holding the Volume down and camera key, until the phone reboots. Now wait patiently as the device goes through the hard reset process and restarts. Ensure that you always have a backup before resetting your phone. (You can find the details on how to hard reset different HTC handsets from: search.htc.com/in?q=hard+reset)

HOW TO BACK UP DATA

The best way to back up data on a Windows Phone is using SkyDrive, Microsoft's cloud storage service.

To back up app settings, photos and text messages, go to Settings > backup and individually select what you want to back up. You will require a Microsoft account to back up your data on SkyDrive.

Contacts are automatically synced to your Microsoft account (Hotmail contacts) if you are using a data connection and a Microsoft ID on your phone.

You can also save your contacts to your Google account from your Windows Phone.

HOW TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE

While setting up a new Windows Phone device or an old device after a reset, select restore your phone during the process.

Your phone must have a working data connection and you will have to use the Microsoft ID through which you backed up your data to Skydrive. Unfortunately, Windows Phone 8 devices can't be backed up to a local computer and therefore can't be restored through it.

ANDROID

HOW AND WHEN TO RESET

Like it is with the iPhone, sometimes a simple restarting of your Android handset can take care of the operating glitch in your device.

In case restarting the phone doesn't solve your problem, or if the device has become unresponsive, simply remove the back cover and take out the battery. Wait for a few minutes before putting it back and restarting the phone.

If this still doesn't solve the problem, you can reset your phone to default settings. To do this, go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset > Reset phone.

Unfortunately, given the fact that different companies use different user interfaces on their phones, on some Android devices you may find this option under Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.

Doing a factory reset will delete your data and apps from the phone, so it's always a good idea to have it all backed up before erasing everything.

If your phone has become unresponsive and restarting it or a software reset doesn't help, you can try a hard reset by simultaneously pressing a combination of buttons on your handset Volume Up + Power + Home button,
or
Hold the Volume Down + Power button for several seconds.

If you are not sure about the key combination for your device, look it up on the web, or call your service
centre .

Once your phone is in recovery mode, use Volume Up and Volume Down to navigate on the screen.

Select Factory Reset and click ok through the home button (Samsung phones) or the power button (stock Android). All your personal data will be deleted.

HOW TO BACK UP CONTACTS, MESSAGES AND APPS

BACKUP TO GOOGLE CLOUD: To backup your app settings, Wi-Fi passwords, contacts, etc, to Google servers, go to Settings > Backup & reset > Back up my data.

GOOGLE ACCOUNT: Go to Settings > Accounts > Google. There, click on the account name. Select what you want to sync, and you're done. In fact, once you have saved your contacts to your Google account, you can access them on Android, Windows Phone, BB10 and iOS devices. If you've installed the Google+ app, you can turn on auto upload in it to backup any picture you click with the phone in real time.

G CLOUD BACKUP : This is a third-party utility that backs up the data from your Android phone to web servers. After installing the app, you will have to create an account with G Cloud before you can start backing up your contacts, messages, photos and music. Every user gets 8GB of free cloud storage.

Download: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com. genie9. gcloudbackup&hl=en Samsung and HTC have programs like Kies and Sync Manager respectively—downloadable from their web sites—that will let you back up your phone data to your PC.

HOW TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE

Restoring an Android phone depends on where you have backed up your data. If you had saved your contacts to your Google account, all you have to do is add your account while setting up the device, and select Auto sync. If you had used some app to back up the data, you can use the same app to restore it back onto your existing or new phone.

BLACKBERRY

HOW AND WHEN TO RESET

If your new Z10 or Q10 is running slow and has some random bug, you can switch it off by pressing Power button for a few seconds. Restart it by pressing the same key again. But in case, the device is unresponsive, you can keep the key pressed for around 10 to 15 seconds to do a hard reboot. This will not delete your data.

In case, you want the device to be restored to factory settings, go to Settings > Security and Privacy > Security Wipe. Type blackberry to confirm the process and you're done.

Depending on the amount of data you have, the process can take from a few minutes to even half an hour, or longer.

HOW TO BACK UP AND RESTORE YOUR PHONE

Backing up from a Z10 or Q10 is slightly old fashioned and reassuring, as it stores the data on your computer. To create a back up, download the BlackBerry Link application and install it on your PC.

Connect your phone to the computer using its cable. BlackBerry Link will identify the device. Click on the Settings icon (top right in the program).

In the General section, check Back up My Device and Select Data To Include In Your Backup Files. On the left pane, click on Back Up Now.

To restore the data, you will have to use the same application. Along with the Back Up Now option, there is a Restore Device Data option. Use that to restore the data to your device.

BACKING UP AND RESTORING AN OS7 DEVICE

Users who have OS7-powered BlackBerry phones can back up their data locally on their computer as well as to the cloud. To back up on your local computer, download the BlackBerry Desktop Software from the company's website and install it on your PC. Then connect your handset to the computer, click BlackBerry device on the left panel in the Desktop Software and select Backup Now on the main screen.

To restore the data that you had saved previously, connect the phone to computer and click on Devices at the top left corner of the program. From the dropdown menu, select Restore and follow the instructions on the screen.

The other way to back up and restore contacts, etc, on OS7 devices is through the BlackBerry Protect app that can be downloaded from BlackBerry World for free. It can't save data for BB10 devices, but for OS7 devices it can be used along with the BlackBerry Protect website to manage backups and restore your phone.
