Dec 13, 2017 : In a crucial order the high court of Tripura issued notices to state government , Centre and CBI authority seeking reply as to why the investigation into the murder of journalist Santanu Bhowmik on September 20. A petition seeking CBI investigation into the murder of Santanu Bhowmik had been filed by his estranged father Sadhan Bhowmik whose lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman pleaded that the ongoing SIT investigation ordered by the state government was not making desired progress even after more than two and half months. He therefore pressed for an impartial CBI investigation into the case.
After hearing pleas from the petitioner as well as the government public prosecutor Subrata Sarkar chief justice T.Vaiphei who headed the high court’s division bench issued notices to the state government, CBI as well as the Centre seeking a reply as to why CBI should not investigate the case. The reply is returnable within a fortnight.
